This tiny hummingbird boasts a broad geographic range, covering northeastern South America and eastern Panama. The male is easily identifiable by his golden throat, ruby-red crown, and orange tail with dark tips. Identifying the female can be more challenging, but her pale gray underparts, white-tipped tail feathers, and dull grayish-green upperparts are distinguishing features. Additionally, the female’s bill is short and slightly curved. This bird is often found in open habitats like savannahs, forest edges, and gardens, where it is quite common.
